The River at your Doorstep… The famous River Street and Riverfront of Savannah, Georgia is expanding to include one of the most outstanding urban communities in the US. Spectacular public spaces, upscale retail, and ease of access by foot, automobile, and riverboat… Savannah River Landing appeals to a dynamic population of both full-time and seasonal residents, as well as many of Savannah’s more than six 6 million annual visitors. The culmination of this historic development is the fact that Savannah River Landing is inspiration for new generations to celebrate the rich cultural past and present of the city of Savannah.
Composed of 54 acres of gracious homes, public squares, and retail areas, the Savannah River Landing Master Plan includes an extension of the famous Riverwalk along the banks of the Savannah River. A new social center will emerge with the creation of a luxury hotel, a boutique hotel, and streets filled with world-class shoppes, dining, galleries, and office space. The residences and businesses of Savannah River Landing will have the advantages of new construction, with state-of-the-art technological features and amenities. While new and vibrant, these buildings will also pay tribute to the historic past of the city via specific architectural guidelines. Launching in January 2008, the development of luxury condominium homes, charming city homes, and magnificent riverfront estates will be situated to overlook spectacular river panoramas and landscaped public squares.
A team led by Ambling Companies, Inc. will develop Savannah River Landing with respect to General James Oglethorpe’s initial 1733 plan for the state’s oldest city by focusing on pedestrian-friendly design and architectural integrity as a flowing extension of the downtown area. As part of a design competition hosted by Savannah River Landing, acclaimed landscape architects explored the historic squares of Savannah and submitted designs for three of the six planned squares, adding to Savannah’s existing network of 22 public squares. The invited landscape architects have the opportunity to design plans for the first addition of city squares in more than 150 years. To establish a design standard for the homes of Savannah River Landing, seven nationally-acclaimed architects were invited to submit their works, inspired by Savannah’s architectural heritage. Christian Sottile, professor of architecture, Savannah College of Art and Design, and principal of Sottile & Sottile, orchestrated this historical event.
Savannah River Landing is nestled among moss-draped Oaks and flowering public parks, in a living museum of American history with one of the most extensive collections of preserved eighteenth and nineteenth century buildings in all of America. Due largely in part to area citizen’s passion for preservation, one can retreat to the charming streets shaded by Live Oaks, indulge in the aroma of flowers of public squares, sample the flavors of authentic Southern Coastal Cooking, listen to the energetic riverfront music, and experience a renaissance of the cultural arts led by the 6,000 students and faculty of The Savannah College of Art and Design.
Savannah River Landing residents will be able to enjoy a stroll or a water taxi ride to Savannah’s famed historic district and its annual special events via the River Street extension. Day docks have been proposed for personal yacht use. Savannah River Landing is a place for residents to begin exploring the many pleasures of Savannah, including the surrounding beaches of areas such as Hilton Head Island and Tybee.
