The members of The Artists' League of Brooklyn have met continuously on the first Sunday of each month for the past 28 years. The League, established in 1969 under the sponsorship of the Brooklyn Arts and Cultural Association, is a non-profit organization serving the community in the field of visual fine arts. Membership is limited to residents of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Its membership is composed not only of professional artists and art teachers, but also of social workers, designers, draughtsmen and computer programmers. Many have won regional and national awards. Members contribute to the lively cultural life of the city through teaching and lecture programs, as well as by donating their paintings to hospitals and nursing homes.
To encourage young artists, the League awards two scholarships annually to promising high school graduates attending both public and parochial schools in Brooklyn
This group of Brooklynites, proud of the historic borough in which they live, depicts its culture in all its richness and diversity. Each ALB artist is committed to personal artistic expression and growth, and, at the same time, seeks to make fine art available to the community.
